Path to Florida Springs National Park
Florida’s Springs: A National Treasure at Risk
Florida is home to more than 1,000 freshwater springs, the largest concentration anywhere in the world. These crystal-clear waters are not only ecological wonders—they are the source of life for people and wildlife alike. In fact, 90% of Florida’s drinking water comes from the aquifer that feeds these springs, making their protection a matter of public health as well as natural heritage.
Yet today, Florida’s springs are under increasing threat. Pollution, over-pumping, and toxic PFAS chemicals are degrading waters that should remain pure. Reduced flow, algal blooms, and contamination are warning signs of a system in crisis. Once lost, these unique ecosystems cannot simply be replaced.
That’s why Clean Earth Initiative is working alongside scientists, community leaders, and lawmakers to strengthen protections. A new bill now moving forward calls for a comprehensive research study to better understand the threats and identify solutions to safeguard these springs for the future. This is a critical first step toward lasting conservation.
But progress depends on awareness and action. By standing together, raising our voices, and demanding stronger protections, we can ensure Florida’s springs remain clean, vibrant, and life-sustaining for generations to come. Watch our video, share it with your community, and join us in defending Florida’s most precious natural treasure.
